Square Meals was designed to create a mealtime lifeline for healthcare workers and an economic lifeline for Central Baltimore restaurants & staff, during the height of the COVID 19 crisis. Major funding was provided by Bank of America, Southway Builders, and many small contributors.
The Square Meals initiative was developed by the Central Baltimore Partnership in collaboration with the owners of several of our most beloved Central Baltimore restaurants. In the beginning: Bramble Baking Co, Carma’s Cafe, Clavel, Larder, Sophomore Coffee, and Secret Sauce Company at North Ave Market, 81 eateries partnered with us. Together, we served emergency and essential care employees at MedStar Union Memorial. As this initiative continued, we expanded it to include additional Central Baltimore restaurants. Ending up with a total of 81 eateries and 65,000 meals served, the iniative provided health care workers during the height of COVID-19 pandemic with high-quality, healthy dinners, breakfasts, and snacks prepared by some of the best restaurants in Central Baltimore. Restauranteurs, working below normal profit margins in an effort to aid the community, recieved compensation to help them stay on their feet, until the city recovery stage allowed them to reopen more fully.
The Square Meals Initiative, a COVID 19 response, has ended and we are no longer accepting donations.
